Faith Studio Portraits
Sometimes, we’re not always in the mood to take photos or create art, and this was one of those moments. It’s important to let go of expectations in these situations and just dive in. I went into the studio with a friend, a bouquet of flowers, and no specific ideas in mind. The first few photos were just warm-up shots, as usual. I took a few portraits and close-ups, which you can see in the photos below.

I decided to walk around the building outside of the studio to find inspiration and other objects to work with. That's when I came across the tulle, which you can see in the photos below. I draped the fabric in a veil-like manner. Since tulle has a unique, opaque look when it overlaps, I decided not to iron the fabric and keep the harsher, wrinkled look of the natural fabric. For these shots, the composition of the flowers was difficult to achieve on our own, so I needed help from someone else to hold them up.
For the final set of photos, I decided to experiment with shooting through gels. Typically, gels are placed in front of the lights to create colored lighting, but I wanted to see how it would look if I placed the gel in front of the camera while using normal lighting. Since the gels are made of shiny plastic, they created an interesting glow when captured through the lens.
Although the creative spark isn’t always there, pushing through can help you break free from a creative rut. This photoshoot helped me gain a better understanding of myself as a creative and how I approach preparation. While I like the results of this shoot, I learned an important lesson: to be prepared. I wasn’t fully prepared for this shoot, and it made the experience less enjoyable. I went forward with my future shoots more prepared.
