Cottage in a Field

Gouache on Paper - 11” x 14”

This piece became a turning point for me.

The original concept was not working, no matter how much time and effort I poured into it. For a while, I thought perseverance meant forcing it to succeed. Eventually, I realized that growth sometimes requires letting go. I stepped back, trusted my instincts, and allowed myself to begin again.

What emerged was stronger and more honest than I could have imagined at the start. I did not fail. I refined. I did not give up. I redirected. By recognizing what was draining my energy and releasing it, I made space for something better, bolder, and more aligned with who I am as an artist.

This piece reminds me that progress is not always about pushing harder. Sometimes it is about listening closely, adjusting course, and having the courage to create something grander than your original plan.
